Not bad at all. Couldn't give a full five due to the salad was upcharged and the waittress did not let me know. Everything had a homemade feel from the decor to the food to the staff. I have to go back and try the pie.

Kind of disappointed, service was ok. She got our orders wrng but fixed it pretty quick. Food from different cooking stations were served at different times so one person ate cold food. And the food itself was mediocre.

Breakfast was very good and the price was right. The service was very good. Ordered two strawberry pies to take with us and the pie was very tasty but a little pricey at $23 per pie.

Had the club sandwich again at this location, something about it wasn't as good as the main location. It was still good, but not quite as good. Pies looked amazing but not my cup of tea so I can't say how they were. Guys with me seemed to love their slices though! Good food if you're in Bossier!

It's a greasy spoon, emphasis on greasy. They get a star for quick and friendly service, but the food just isn't good. Maybe my Dallas expectations are a little high, or maybe there aren't too many options around, but they were packed. Good for them, because everyone in there was super sweet. But back to the food-- The eggs, bacon and toast were fine, no problems there, but.. Hash browns were undercooked and over greased. Sausage was the frozen variety. And the kid didn't even like her pancake (I've honestly never seen that before). Was going to try the "famous pies", which we saw going out the door in droves, but I figure if the pancake isn't good, how good can the pie be?

You don't come to Strawn's for an organic mix of field greens. You don't come to Strawn's for white linen's and a glass of their finest red. You don't come to Strawn's for any kind of hoity toity meals. You come to Strawn's for some real down home Southern cookin', no bullshit added, just some butter. That's right. Fried Chicken, meatloaf, burgers, chicken fried steak, roast beef, mustard greens, potatoes, okra, black-eyed peas, green beans, gravy, mac 'n' cheese, and more. The kind of stuff cooked from the heart to kill the heart. I'm always in the mood for breakfast, and a diner like Strawn's does not disappoint. Now if you have days where you do feel like a hoity toity food snob, like myself, you may order the egg white omelet and, wait for it...prepare to be pleasantly surprised! When I ordered my Egg White Omelet, at a place that is not necessarily known for any healthy items, I had fully prepared myself for the worst, but dang nabit! It was delicious! Who'd a thunk?! Healthy egg whites folded over flavorful mushrooms, tomatoes, and green peppers. If you have a sweeter tooth, Strawn's has floats, sundaes, shakes, and pies. Yes, pies. Apparently their pies are a big F-ing deal, that I wish now that I had at least taken a bite so that I could vouch for. I could really go for a piece of pie right now. Unfortunately, after eating at Strawn's, I was filled to the brim and couldn't even think about shoveling one more bite into my pie hole. To recap... *If you want some real Southern home cookin', get into Strawn's. *Get any breakfast option, even the egg white omelet! *Get the okra as a side! The flavors of okra and tomatoes blend together. *Try a piece of pie and let me know what I'm missing out on!

Old school diners can either be awesome food or bland tasteless slop. Strawn's, as it turns out, is pretty dang tasty and had service that is equally as great (Thanks to Sima!) Most of our group of 7 had the hamburger steak, which everyone seemed to enjoy. We also had some made to order hash browns, homemade beef stew, fabulous real mashed potatoes, greens, beans and pancakes and everything was very good. The food was prepared and served quickly and hot! I can't wait to eat our Strawns world famous strawberry pie when we get back home!

January 2015 update: It's still my favorite place in Shreveport/Bossier, but it has become very inconsistent. I go for the fried chicken (as I have for 50 years.) I had it twice on the most recent trip. Once it was a very small breast (others' at the table were good-sized) and the usually delicious and ample fried batter was thin and rather plain. The chicken itself was mostly flavorless. The second dinner was better-- a larger piece and better tasting, but still rather bland compared to my previous 50 years of experience there. Someone is messing with a legendary recipe. Or maybe it's carelessness. Why? The chocolate pie is my favorite, and it is still a crapshoot... you may get mostly whipped cream with a little spread of chocolate filling on the crust, or it may be about 50/50 chocolate and whipped cream. Very disappointing. NEWS FLASH: IF YOU'RE GOING TO CALL IT "CHOCOLATE ICE BOX PIE", THEN THE MAIN INGREDIENT SHOULD BE CHOCOLATE... Sad with the inconsistencies... that is the death of restaurants, and frustrating and very disappointing to someone like me who only gets to eat there once a year. Expectations: Unmet.

Solid diner breakfast and good selections for kids. Super friendly servers -- real family diner atmosphere. Good coffee. They will make Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes! My nephew loves the strawberry and cream (mickey) pancakes. I love their biscuits and sausage gravy. They are homemade. Mmmmm. They also have a really good steak and eggs. Wholesome country food at good prices.

What a dissapointment. I've been to Strawn's since I was little, well, the one on Kings Hwy. But while visiting family this weekend the Bossier location was closer to a friends house so we went there for brunch at 11:30am. My husband is a grits fanatic. EVERY Saturday I have to make him grits, and if I don't make them, we go somewhere that he can order them. He chose Strawn's since he knew they had grits. Well, strike 1 - they were out of grits. He couldn't believe it! Then he ordered an omelet and they were out of picante sauce, strike 2. Then I ordered a scrambled egg sandwich with bacon.....oops, they decided to make it with a fried egg, strike 3. The waitress asked did I mind that it was fried when I ordered scrambled and if I didn't like it, she'd have them remake it. I just ate it and shut up since my husband was already ranting to me, which makes for such a nice relaxing breakfast....PSSBBBTTT. Tip to Strawn's - if you offer breakfast on your menu all day, around the clock, you need to keep grits on hand. If your cook screws up someone's order, just correct it before bringing it to the table and apologize that it will be out shortly. If you don't have a staple condiment like picante sauce, apologize or let the person know when they order something that most people use that condiment for that you are out BEFORE they order it. Tip to everyone else - go to the original Strawn's on Kings...hopefully it hasn't changed.

Delicious! Omelet- spinach, mushroom, jalepenó, cheddar, biscuit. All very good! Coffee was stout and kept hot by great service. Here's where I go against the grain. I got a piece of chocolate pie to go. Chocolate & pie... What could be wrong with that?!? Well, I wasn't impressed :/ It was just kind of boring, very average, not worth the calories. The husband agreed. I would definitely go back for the food but I would skip desert.

Yuuup! You can definitely find good ol' Southern cooking here! The owner himself kindly opened the door for us. Since my family was starving, we promptly ordered a special of the day with fried chicken, mustard greens, rice and gravy, corn muffins, and red beans. My husband loved his meal for 7.50, a real meal and a real value! We also tried the okra, the sausage omelet with potatoes, the pancake with peanut butter, and two pieces of whipped cream pie with strawberries and peaches. Truth be said, the food was a little greasy for me. On a nostalgic note, I loved how the all the servers that were not busy stood around the table laughing and chatting while they helped cut up the fresh fruit for the pies. The best part of the meal was all that fruit that was prepared with love!

Mmmmm, home cooked food. When I wanted some comfort food because I was travelling for work and not feeling well the only real option was to go to Strawn's in Shreveport. Strawn's has several locations, and while this isn't the original I really didn't have complaints. They have AWESOME lunch specials, good portions of food for not a lot of money and the chicken fried steak I had the day I visited was just plain awesome. I do have to say that this is very much home cooked food, I literally think I saw a small army of grandmothers shackled to stoves and ovens. Not super flavorful but made with love. Their pies are delicious, but I agree with a lot of the other reviewers that so much whipped cream almost ruins the pie. The crust and the filling for both their coconut and their strawberry were phenomenal but you ended up having to scrape piles of whipped cream away to even taste it. Oh well, still yummy!

True southern breakfast! Wow awesome eats! A must do for anyone in the area! Please don't leave without a strawberry pie! I put a little on my forehead and my younger about beat my brains out trying to get to it!!! What a meal! You gt to try this one!

I've been to Strawn's now a few times, and I've been pleased with it, though not blown away. Service at Strawn's is great, and all of the ladies serving early in the morning are friendly and attentive, especially with refreshing a cup of coffee. Where the service is consistently good, the food does vary some. Their biscuits are great, their grits OK, and their eggs and bacon roughly the same as could be had at home. I want home-cooked, but I also want quality! That said, the price at Strawn's is totally right for breakfast. I leave a generous tip and I don't ever pay more than $10 for a breakfast that leaves me satisfied and ready for my day. I may have to come back here some other time and check it out for lunch or dinner.

I love all the other Strawn's, but this one is just terrible. My boyfriend and I got there and were seated immediately. He'd never been to a Strawn's so I was extremely excited to let him experience an amazing place he'd never been. Much to my surprise, it was horrible. I never plan on visiting this one again. Our waitress was great and very attentive. She made sure we knew what everything was and took our order immediately. We both ordered hamburgers; mine was a regular cheeseburger (because they're so large) and he got a double bacon cheeseburger. We also got french fries. The hamburgers were literally maybe 1/4 inch thick soyburgers. I paid $6 for a hamburger when I could have got one for $1 at Wendy's that was larger than that. I do like soyburgers but I'm not willing to pay that for one. I was expecting a REAL juicy burger, and got a crappy small soyburger instead. The fries were absolutely delicious though. When we spoke to the manager about it, he didn't charge for one of the meals, but did the other. We also got a slice of strawberry pie on the house, but some of the strawberries were really sour. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I will never go back to this Strawn's. Only Shreveport locations from now on for me!

Same great food you know and love from across town just in another location off of Airline! I went to the original Strawn's across town after reading all the reviews about the food and was glad I did. I'm even happier that I found another one of their locations closer to where I live. The food is good and greasy and generous portions so you probably don't want to hit this place up to often or risk the consequences.
